2.1.1 Do helical worm gear motors require a run-in period?

Since the tooth flanks of new helical worm gear/ angle gear units do not yet have optimum load-bearing capacity, each gear unit should first run for some time without load and then for approx. 5h with approx. 50% of the nominal load. If an operation with partial load is not possible, the gear unit should be switched off repeatedly when the operating temperature or the permissible lubricant temperature of 80°C is reached. A sufficient running-in period is decisive for the performance and service life!
