Calculating the Cable Cross Section

The conductor cross section should not be selected solely based on the required current-carrying capacity; rather, the requirements for protection against hazardous body currents, overload and short-circuit currents, and voltage drop should also be considered. If cables are operated for extended periods at temperatures above the specified values, they can suffer severe damage that can lead to premature failure or significant degradation of properties.
