Gearbox combinations

Worm gearboxes are available in various speeds, from 2 to 600 rpm (revolutions per minute). Worm gearbox-electric motor combinations are often required as custom motors with specific customer requirements. We are the ideal partner for you in this regard, as our decades of experience and in-house final assembly allow us to cover a wide range of needs. This includes, among others, worm gearboxes with brake motors, special shafts, worm gearboxes with three-phase motors including external fans, slow-running gearboxes for barbecue applications, gearboxes with special voltages, and explosion-proof versions.

Size and power of the geared motors

In our online shop for geared motors, you will find a selection of worm gear motors with various speeds. The worm gears up to size 90 are made of aluminum; the larger series are made of die-cast aluminum. Available sizes are 30, 40, 50, 63, 75, 80, 90, 100, 110, 125, 130, and 150. The gears are available with power ratings of 0.12 kW, 0.25 kW, 0.37 kW, 0.55 kW, 0.75 kW, 1.1 kW, 1.5 kW, 2.2 kW, 3.0 kW, 4 kW, 5.5 kW, 7.5 kW, and 11 kW.

Shaft diameters and torques

Worm gearboxes are available with hollow shafts in the following sizes: 14 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, 30 mm, 35 mm, 40 mm, 45 mm, and 50 mm. The output torque depends, among other things, on the motor power, efficiency, and output speed. Taking these factors into account, we supply worm gearboxes with a torque range of 10–2000 Nm. Should the torque of the worm gearbox be insufficient, we would be happy to offer you a suitable bevel gearbox.

Worm gear construction

Worm gears, also known as bevel gears, consist of a shaft with one or more helical threads, the worm, and a meshing helical gear, the worm wheel. The axes of the two are offset by 90°. Such gears are particularly suitable for applications requiring high reduction ratios in a single step. Both left- and right-hand rotating worm gear motors are available. Both directions of rotation are equally possible. Complete mounting flexibility includes foot, flange, and centering solutions with a torque arm. Self-locking occurs at efficiencies below 50%.


Worm gear installation

The geared motor can be installed in virtually any required position. The installation positions are designated M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, and M6. The explanatory datasheet can be found in the article. The requirements of standard applications can generally be met. The low self-locking often offers advantages in many applications. However, self-locking increases at efficiencies below approximately 50%.
