    Incremental Encoder or Absolute Encoder: Differences and Advantages

    When choosing the right measuring system for electric motors, the question often arises: Incremental encoder or absolute encoder? The main difference lies in the way the position is detected. An incremental encoder measures angular changes and requires a reference point (homing) after power-up to determine its exact position.
    In contrast, an absolute encoder provides its unique position within a scale immediately after power-up, without the need for reference data. This immediate readiness is a decisive criterion for modern automation solutions.

    The BASIC incremental encoder is the ideal choice for high-precision positioning tasks where cost efficiency is a priority. It is suitable for all control systems that can process HTL signals.
