2.1.26 Does a spur geared motor require a break-in period?

Since the gear teeth of new gearboxes do not yet have optimal load-bearing capacity, each gearbox should first be run for a period of time without a load and then for approximately 5 hours at about 50% of its rated load. If operation at partial load is not possible, the gearbox should be switched off repeatedly when the operating temperature, more precisely the permissible lubricant temperature of 80 °C, is reached. A sufficient break-in period is crucial for performance and service life!
