1.1.10 Can the speed of a single-phase motor be controlled with a frequency inverter?
With an AC motor (single-phase motor or single-phase 230V motor), speed control via a frequency inverter is not possible. In a single-phase motor with a running and starting capacitor, the starting capacitor is switched off by a centrifugal switch at a certain speed. This does not work when the speed is changed by a frequency converter. The motor would be destroyed. Using a three-phase motor with a single-phase frequency converter is recommended here, especially since it offers more control options, higher torque, and is also more economical.
