1.5 When and where are IP23 electric motors used?
IP23 electric motors are typically used in dry and dust-free environments , as they are protected against solid foreign objects (12.5 mm and larger) and splashing water (up to an angle of 60°). Here are the main areas of application:
Typical areas of application:
- Industrial ventilation and air conditioning technology: Ideal for fans, blowers and air handling systems.
- Machine tools: In workshops or production halls where there is no high humidity or aggressive media.
- Pumps and compressors: Store in dry indoor spaces or covered areas.
- Conveyor technology: For drives in warehouses or logistics facilities.
When are they particularly suitable?
- When no direct protection from rain or high humidity is required.
- In low-dust environments , as protection against fine dust (e.g. IP54) is not provided.
- For cost-effective solutions , as IP23 motors are often cheaper than motors with a higher degree of protection.
Important:
IP23 motors are not suitable for outdoor use or damp environments. For such applications, motors with a higher protection rating, e.g., IP55, are recommended.
