Frame Sizes and Power Ratings of the Worm Gears

Our worm gears — also frequently referred to as angle gears — are available in frame sizes 30, 40, 50, 63, 75, 80, 100, 125, and 150, and with power ratings of 0.12 kW, 0.18 kW, 0.25 kW, 0.37 kW, 0.55 kW, 0.75 kW, 1.1 kW, 1.5 kW, 2.2 kW, 3.0 kW, 4 kW, 5.5 kW, 7.5 kW, and 11 kW. The aluminum worm gears are available with the following hollow shaft sizes: 14 mm, 18 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, 30 mm, 35 mm, 40 mm, 45 mm, and 50 mm.

Technical Design of the Gear Motors

Worm gears consist of a shaft fitted with one or more helical threads — the worm — and a helically toothed wheel meshing with it — the worm wheel. The axes of the two components are offset by 90°. Typical applications for this type of gearbox are where high reduction ratios are required in a single step. Worm gear motors are available in both left-hand and right-hand helix versions. Both directions of rotation are equally possible. Complete flexibility in mounting options includes foot, flange, and centering solutions with a torque arm. The motor terminal box can optionally be rotated around the motor in 90° increments. The gear motor can be installed in any required position, whether horizontal or vertical. Due to the high interchangeability of gear motor components (IEC flange), customers benefit from versatile options, reduced costs, faster delivery times, and easy maintenance. The worm gears are available in various speeds, from 2 to 600 rpm (revolutions per minute). Six frame sizes with center distances from 30–125 mm and gear ratios from 5–110 (up to i = 3000 when combining two gearboxes) are available in many versions. The worm gears and worm gear motors presented here were developed for universal use in general mechanical and apparatus engineering. The aluminum housing, manufactured using the die-casting process, offers high strength with compact dimensions and low weight. All-around machining in a single clamping operation ensures maximum precision and thus reliable use in many areas of drive technology. The high-quality gear set consists of a hardened worm with a ground profile and a wear-resistant bronze worm wheel, which is firmly cast with a cast iron hub.
