2.1.18 What protection rating do stainless steel helical geared motors have?
The protection rating differs depending on whether the drive has a fan or is self-ventilating. Stainless steel helical geared motors up to 1.5 kW without a fan have a protection rating of IP69K. Stainless steel helical geared motors up to 7.5 kW with a fan have a protection rating of IP66.
The IP69K protection rating was developed for high-pressure jet cleaning at high temperatures. The number "6" indicates protection against dust ingress, while the number "9" indicates protection against high-pressure cleaning at close range. Introduced in 1993, the IP69K rating is based on the DIN 40050-9 standard. It was originally developed for motor vehicles to protect against the ingress of foreign objects such as dust or dirt and against hot water jets.
In the latest version of the IEC 60529 standard, only IP69 is mentioned (IP69K = IP69).
